Ulfstein.jpgBorn 1951. Dr. juris, University of Oslo, 1995. Professor of international law at the Department of Public and International Law, University of Oslo. Member of the ESIL Interest Group on International Environmental Law.

Director of the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights 2004-2007.  Visiting scholar at the University of Washington, University of Cambridge, Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public and International Law (Heidelberg), and University of Paris I – Panthéon Sorbonne.

Publications in various fields of international law, including the law of the sea, international environmental law, human rights, and international institutional law. Co-edited Making Treaties Work: Human Rights, Environment and Arms Control (CUP 2007) and co-authored (with Jan Klabbers and Anne Peters) The Constitutionalization of International Law (OUP 2009).

Co-director of a research project on “Should States Ratify Human Rights Conventions?” at the Norwegian Centre for Advanced Study (CAS) (2009-2010). The outcome will be published in a new book series: Studies on Human Rights Conventions (CUP).
